Infrastructure projects should be structured comprehensively to mitigate risks: Yaduvendra Mathur, Additional Secretary, Knowledge Innovation Hub, NITI Aayog

The Additional Secretary of the Knowledge Innovation Hub at NITI Aayog, Yaduvendra Mathur stressed the importance of structuring infrastructure projects comprehensively in order to mitigate construction risks. He was speaking at ASSOCHAM’s National Conference on Sureties and Guarantees. He recommended raising funds based on a project’s Special Purpose Vehicle and through project-specific bonds. These are possible ways for tackling the assumed country risks, based on India’s BBB rating from International rating agencies.

Member - Finance of NHAI Rohit Kumar Singh delivered Key Note Address at the event.  He mentioned how his organization has improved the effectiveness of Public-Private Partnerships for road construction projects. He also added how the Toll Operate Transfer or TOT model has enabled the recycle assets into the sector. 

Delivering the Theme Address earlier in the day, the Vice President of SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited, Sunil Kanoria highlighted the need to expose the industry to global financial products like sureties and guarantees for managing the working capital. He also made recommendations towards establishing a conducive regulatory environment.

The event also witnessed the launch of a knowledge paper titled “Guarantees- A Global Way to Create Game Changing Possibilities for National Growth” in addition to technical discussions on Beneficiary sectors and problems that Guarantees can solve for the business owners and The process of performance of bonds and guarantees: the entire value chain of the product.
