Govt. to set up 42 Mega Food Parks by 2019: Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, MoS, Food Processing Industries

The government will set up 42 Mega Food Parks by 2019. This was said by Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti at ASSOCHAM’s National Conference on Cold Chain in New Delhi. The Minister also spoke of the central government’s SAMPADA scheme.

Addressing the gathering, Joint Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shakeel Ahamad stressed on the need for closer cooperation between the Industry, the academia and the government. He added that advances in cold chain development could help increase farmers income.

   Delivering the keynote address, the chairman of APEDA, Dr. D K Singh He noted that the quality of Indian agricultural produce was uneven. He called for greater cooperation with farmers. 

The event also saw extensive deliberations on issues such as Technology and Capacity Building of Cold Chain and Future Readiness with Technology in Logistics, Post Harvest and Clean Energy. Prominent dignitaries that participated in the event included Country Director for Asian Development Bank – Kenichi Yokoyama; Principal Economist Asian Development Bank – Johanna Boestal; Joint Managing Director, PMV Nutrients Pvt. Ltd. – Vikas Jain; National Manager, Cold Chain Solutions, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Ltd – Lalit Agarwal; Chairman and Managing Director, Tiger Logistics India Ltd – Harpreet Singh Malhotra and Secretary General of ASSOCHAM – D. S. Rawat besides others.
