 Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs on Wednesday while addressing an Assocham event said "States undermined our efforts by tweaking RERA"

Puri called upon all stakeholders to come forward and step up their participation in the affordable housing scheme so that it could become successful.

The minister said, “If the target of Housing for All by 2022 has to be achieved, it will require effort by all stakeholders, especially the private sector.”

Outlining a strategy to get apprehensive slum dwellers on board for the affordable housing scheme, he suggested that land value can be counted towards payment for construction of houses by dwellers.

“The cost of land in slums can be used to pay for construction of land, which will be a win-win situation for both builders and slum dwellers,” Puri said.He was speaking at ASSOCHAM's National Summit on Housing for All in New Delhi.
