₹ 12000 cr pledged for Swacchta Mission: Yugal Kishore Joshi, Director, Ministry of Drinking Water Rs 12000 cr have been pledged for Swacchta Mission for the financial year 2016-2017. This was revealed by the Director, Ministry of Drinking Water – Yugal Kishore Joshi. The Director was speaking at ASSOCHAM’s 2nd Conference on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) for All in New Delhi. He also spoke of the government’s campaign against open defecation Delivering the special address, the Chief of WASH, UNICEF India – Nicolas Osbert observed that the quality of drinking water was still a problem in India. He noted that India lost US$ 58.3 bn every year due to diseases caused by poor sanitation. The Senior General Manager, Partnerships, Piramal Sarvajal - Sanjay Ghatak who delivered the keynote address, pointed out that water borne diseases account for the deaths of more than 3.2 lakh children every year in India. The conference also witnessed discussions on the Innovative Approaches and Solutions to improve Health, Education, and Nutrition through WASH Practices. Prominent dignitaries that graced the occasion included Head – Strategic Partnerships and External Affairs, Reckitt Benckiser India – Ravi Bhatnagar, National Professional Officer (Public Health and Environment), WHO Country Office for India – Manjeet Singh Saluja; CEO Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative – S.
